Boris Thuginski Found Religion. Unfortunately, the Thug Came Along.
Or: The Lawfully Neutral Paladin, Premium-Grade Egos, and a Prayer Nobody Authorized
A Jerry's Marginalia — by Department of Petty Affairs
By Jerry “The Ankle-Biter” Silverhand
Ladies, gentlemen, raccoons, and whatever deity is currently reviewing this man's character sheet:
We have a development.
Boris Thuginski, formerly a Thug, has officially transitioned into his new role as The Lawfully Neutral Paladin.
Now, before anybody starts celebrating his miraculous transformation into a beacon of divine righteousness, I need to clarify something.
BORIS IS STILL FUCKING BORIS.
He hasn't suddenly become a gentle woodland creature who distributes flowers, compliments strangers, and apologizes to furniture after bumping into it.
Absolutely fucking not.
The man still enjoys snorting up premium-grade A+ egos.
Not actual narcotics, mind you.
We're talking about the finest, most concentrated, industrial-strength arrogance humanity can produce.
The kind of ego that walks into a room wearing sunglasses indoors and announces:
"DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?"
Boris inhales deeply.
SNFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT.
"Ahhhhh. Vintage 2026. Notes of entitlement, insecurity, and a lingering aftertaste of somebody who desperately needs to shut the fuck up."
Some habits survive character development.
The Sacred Oath of Not Giving a Fuck
But something has changed.
The old Boris might have entertained every challenge.
Somebody wanted an argument?
Fine.
Somebody wanted to test his patience?
Wonderful.
Somebody wanted to manufacture an unnecessary conflict?
LET'S FUCKING GO.
But the Paladin?
The Paladin has acquired a new ability.
DIVINE DISENGAGEMENT.
A Level 99 defensive skill that allows him to observe an approaching shipment of bullshit, determine that it contains absolutely nothing worth his time, and walk the fuck away.
No dramatic confrontation.
No unnecessary retaliation.
No twelve-page explanation of why the other person is an idiot.
Just a simple:
"Denied."
And the gates close.
QUEST FAILED: YOU HAVE NOT EARNED THE PALADIN'S ATTENTION.
Boris Discovers the Power of Prayer
Of course, becoming a Paladin means accepting certain religious responsibilities.
Prayer.
Reflection.
Discipline.
And occasionally kneeling before an altar while wondering why the fuck the divine customer service department keeps transferring your calls.
One evening, Boris approaches the sacred altar.
He removes his helmet.
Places his sword beside him.
Gets down on his knees.
And begins.
"Protect me and grant me strength, for thy goon and thy shield protective me."
Silence.
Somewhere in the heavens, an angel drops a clipboard.
Another angel checks the official prayer transcript.
"Did he just say GOON?"
"Yes."
"Is that in the scripture?"
"Absolutely fucking not."
"Should we correct him?"
"Would YOU like to correct Boris Thuginski?"
The angels exchange glances.
The prayer continues.
"Grant me patience when surrounded by fools, wisdom when confronted by bullshit, and the strength to walk away before I turn somebody's ego into powdered seasoning."
A distant thunderclap.
"May my wallet remain closed to temptation, my sword remain sheathed before unnecessary conflict, and my judgment remain sharper than the tongues of those who manufacture drama."
The heavens begin to glow.
"And should I encounter an arrogant motherfucker who mistakes my restraint for weakness..."
The angels lean forward.
"...grant me the wisdom to recognize that his bullshit is not my responsibility."
The clouds part.
A celestial voice finally responds.
"YOUR PRAYER HAS BEEN RECEIVED."
Boris looks up.
"Wonderful."
"PLEASE ALLOW SIX TO EIGHT BUSINESS DAYS FOR PROCESSING."
"Fuck off."
PRAYER STATUS: PENDING DIVINE REVIEW.
The God, the Goddess, and the Cactus
Unfortunately, the Department of Petty Affairs has discovered an administrative problem.
Nobody knows which deity Boris has been praying to.
A god?
A goddess?
Some ancient celestial being whose name requires seventeen apostrophes and a pronunciation guide?
Or Gerald the Cactus, who has recently declared himself the Supreme Botanical Deity of Accountability?
Gerald approaches the altar.
"MY CHILD. KNEEL BEFORE ME."
Boris stares.
Gerald stares back.
A tumbleweed rolls across the temple floor.
"Gerald."
"YES, MY CHILD?"
"You're a fucking cactus."
"AND YOU ARE A MORTAL SEEKING DIVINE GUIDANCE."
"You're sitting in a flowerpot."
"THE SACRED VESSEL OF ETERNAL WISDOM."
"There's a price tag on your ass."
"THAT IS MY HOLY INSIGNIA."
Boris closes his eyes.
Takes a breath.
And demonstrates his newest Paladin ability.
DIVINE DISENGAGEMENT ACTIVATED.
He walks away.
Gerald screams:
"YOU CANNOT ABANDON YOUR GOD!"
Boris replies:
"WATCH ME."
The Thug Never Left
And that's the part I find rather amusing.
Boris hasn't stopped being Boris.
The Thug is still there.
The stubbornness.
The sharp tongue.
The outrageous humor.
The willingness to stand his ground when something genuinely matters.
But now there's something else.
Restraint.
Boundaries.
An understanding that strength isn't measured by how many arguments you win.
Sometimes it's measured by how many unnecessary arguments you refuse to entertain.
The Thug learned how to fight.
The Paladin learned when not to.
And neither version is particularly interested in kissing somebody's ass.
Which, frankly, is probably why the celestial administration keeps losing his paperwork.
Final Benediction: The Gospel According to Boris
And so, dear readers, let us close with the sacred teachings of our newly appointed Lawfully Neutral Paladin.
May your sword remain sharp.
May your shield remain sturdy.
May your wallet remain protected from expensive nonsense.
May your enemies find productive hobbies.
May your ego remain small enough to fit through an ordinary doorway.
And should somebody attempt to drag you into an unnecessary argument, may you possess the divine wisdom to say:
"IF IT COSTS ME, I'LL LET IT GO."
For not every battle deserves a warrior.
Not every insult requires an answer.
And not every arrogant bastard deserves the privilege of being snorted like premium-grade A+ ego dust.
Boris kneels one final time.
Raises his hands toward the heavens.
And speaks:
"Protect me and grant me strength, for thy goon and thy shield protective me."
A divine voice answers:
"THAT IS STILL NOT HOW THE PRAYER GOES."
Boris smiles.
"Then fucking improvise."
AMEN.
Or whatever the appropriate theological paperwork requires.
