Farewell to Dill Weed — Quiet Respect, No Retraction
To my ex-department manager for Grocery/Frozen—
You may never read this. You may never know it exists. But I’m writing it anyway—because some things deserve to be said, even in silence.
I want to say this clearly: I wish you the best. Genuinely.
You were capable. You knew your stuff. You moved fast, held high standards, and demanded efficiency in a place where many coast. And in those early days? I learned a lot from watching you. That’s not sarcasm. That’s truth.
But ego—what I call “the weight no one sees”—it got heavy. And somewhere between the hours and the freight, it stopped being about the work and started becoming about control. That’s where we split.
I wasn’t trying to fight you. I just refused to fold. You wanted a worker to break. What you got instead was one who stood calmly… and kept going.
Even after the clap, after the reports, after the silence— I don’t hate you. I never did.
Like Jeff, the one man who shaped my fire, I still loved you—even when it ended in a quiet exit. Because I see beyond titles. And beneath the ego, I saw someone trying to do right… just in the wrong way.
I hope in your next job, you get the chance to lead again. But more than that, I hope you get to lead without the armor of pride. Because when you let that go? There’s a damn good leader underneath.
So wherever you land, I hope the hours are steady, the team clicks, and the weight feels lighter. I don’t need closure. But I wanted to give you peace if you ever stumbled across this.
You were my department head. Now you’re gone. But I carry no hate. Only forward motion.
