I told the driver the truth about OBE. Not the polished corporate lie, but the dirt under the nails:
- Lazy worker = A-OK.
- Hard worker = Not A-OK.
- Ignore safety = A-OK.
- Follow the book = Not A-OK.
That’s the OBE way. Reward beige, punish fire. Smile at mediocrity, spit on willpower.
And the kicker? PPE. I’ll wear the boots, gloves, glasses—fine. Protect the body, hands, feet, eyes. But the ears? Nah. Let me listen to something if I’m gonna stand around doing dick all. Call it safety if you want, but it smells like control.
So I laughed. Because that’s the real joke: a system terrified of workers who burn hotter than “above average.” And me? I still run on willpower and a middle finger.
