Hugging the Tree
Generations of work.
Generations of sacrifice.
And for what?
To repeat the same grind?
To inherit the same debts and call it “progress”?
To weep over the same burdens our parents carried, only dressed in new words?
I hear it everywhere—crying about how much has been built, how much has been given. But if it all just loops back to the same place, what was truly gained?
I don’t rage at it anymore.
I don’t beg it to change.
I hug the tree.
I scream into its bark.
But I hug it—because I understand it’s older than me, heavier than me, and it won’t move just because I want it to.
And I smile.
Because even while the world clings to cycles and cries about the weight of history, I’ve already decided: I won’t be crushed in their repetition.
I’ll blink.
I’ll breathe.
I’ll win—by refusing to mistake their endless labor for peace.
