Jerry’s Marginalia — “Black Sheep Weather”
Every franchise has a black sheep.
Not because it failed.
But because it arrived at the wrong time.
Dragon Quarter wasn’t hated because it was empty. It was hated because it didn’t behave.
Players wanted comfort. It offered pressure.
Players wanted continuity. It offered reset.
And reset feels like insult if you mistake it for erasure.
But reset isn’t erasure.
It’s iteration.
The loudest critics always say the same thing: “This isn’t what I asked for.”
But art isn’t obligated to be polite. It’s allowed to experiment. It’s allowed to misfire. It’s allowed to arrive early.
Weather changes. Reception changes. Context changes.
The sheep never changes. Only the pasture does.
So if you like the black sheep?
Good.
You’re not wrong. You’re just not following the flock.
