📓 Jerry’s Marginalia — The Avatar Complex
(scribbled in the margins with a half-broken mechanical pencil)
Avatar isn’t complicated. It just wants to feel complicated.
This is a franchise where:
- Humans blew up Earth like a rental car.
- Looked around.
- Saw Pandora shining like a “Do Not Touch” museum piece.
- And immediately said:
“What if we touched it… aggressively… and monetized the touching?”
Meanwhile Pandora is basically God running a closed-beta MMORPG with strict anti-colonizer DRM, and every Na’vi tribe is a different biome DLC. Forest expansion. Ocean expansion. Lava expansion. Coming winter 2032: Snow People With Attitude.
Jake Sully’s whole arc:
- Movie 1: “I betrayed my species.”
- Movie 2: “I became a suburban alien dad who yells at kids to listen.”
- Movie 3: “Why is this planet more divided than Twitter?”
Every movie = Humans doing War Crimes Speedrun%, and Pandora saying,
“Cool story. Nature patch v3.0 now includes whales with trauma and lava people who bite back.”
And Cameron films it like God’s nature documentary narrated by trauma.
Jerry closes the notebook. Shrugs. Laughs.
Verdict: Beautiful. Dumb. Beautifully dumb. And I keep reading.
