The Will to Resist

📝 Jerry's Marginalia - "Working as Intended."

There’s a quiet group of people the system doesn’t see.

You work. Your hours fluctuate. Transportation eats your money. You’re independent, single, and not “dramatic” enough on paper.

You make just enough to be denied help, but not enough to be secure.

And the system looks at you and says, “You’re fine.”

You’re not fine. You’re just invisible to spreadsheets.

The system works exactly as intended. It filters by clean income cliffs. It ignores instability. It punishes transition.

If you’re consistently poor, it helps. If you’re fully stable, you don’t need it. But if you’re climbing—juggling shifts, waiting on the next step—you’re expected to absorb the damage quietly.

Not because you don’t need help. But because you don’t fit the category.

So I stopped holding it up emotionally.

I won’t rage. I won’t beg. I won’t pretend denial is virtue.

I’ll feed myself, stabilize, and route around what doesn’t serve me.

Systems don’t collapse from anger. They collapse when enough people stop believing in them.

If that makes me numb, so be it. Numb is cheaper than bleeding.
