The Will to Resist

Jerry’s Marginalia XXXV — “The Laugh That Echoed Back”

Some people laugh at the mirror because it’s safer than looking at it. They mistake reflection for ridicule, honesty for attack, and calm for arrogance. But the truth is quieter than all that — it doesn’t shout, it waits.

The mirror doesn’t mock. It remembers. It keeps every version of you that tried to lie and forgave you anyway. It knows when your smile is defense and when it’s surrender.

People think these dockets, these Marginalia, are about rage or wit or philosophy. They’re not. They’re about building a world where reflection isn’t punishment — it’s maintenance. Because patience isn’t born in silence. It’s born in restraint. And reflection isn’t weakness. It’s accountability with teeth.

When I bark, it’s in my own house. When I laugh, it’s not at the broken mirror — it’s with the one that learned to heal. So if they see chaos, that’s fine. Maybe one day they’ll realize the chaos was the cure.
