No Regrets, No Permission Needed: A Nerd’s Reckoning
I don’t need validation. I’ve already found it in myself. But when someone stands up and says it raw? I’ll still Bear Blog it—not for praise, but because someone else out there might need to hear what I already know:
You don’t owe the world permission to be who you are.
If you're battling depression, body image, judgment from the peanut gallery of couch critics who think their opinions are gospel—you are not alone. Not then. Not now. And not tomorrow either.
Because some of us? We were the ones getting called nerds, freaks, weirdos. For loving games. For loving anime. For daring to care about something that wasn’t football or beer.
But guess what? We stayed weird.We stayed nerdy. We survived long enough to see the culture flip. Now esports gets sponsorships. Anime fills stadiums. Gaming conventions sell out faster than Super Bowl tickets.
We were never wrong. We were just early.
And no—you’re not going to be me. You’re not going to be Boris, forged in the flame, who walked through the furnace and came out laughing with burn marks shaped like armor. That path isn’t yours.
But your fire? That’s still waiting. Your strength is still buried under the soot. You don’t need to become me to become you.
So if anyone still has a problem with you for loving what you love? F*** ‘em. No apologies. No leash. No shrinking.
You don’t want to be 60 years old saying, “Well I had a steady job… but I never did a damn thing for me.”
Do what makes you feel real. What makes you feel alive. Whether it’s games, content, cosplay, D&D, or watching your toddler load up a VHS tape like a little time traveler.
You get one life. That’s it. When your clock punches out, it’s done.
So the gatekeepers? The elitists? The loudmouths with their weak takes and even weaker understanding? Let ‘em bark. Let ‘em gatekeep their empty kingdoms.
We’re building worlds. We’re building ourselves. We’re stoking the furnace—not for them. For us.
