The Will to Resist

The Joker’s Testimony #022

Unfiled Addendum

Anon: Why do you laugh when you see the rich, the poor, the cries about fairness?

The Joker: Because it’s a comedy, darling. The rich sit on their thrones counting zeroes, the poor scream for crumbs, and everyone in between pretends they had the same chance at the golden chair.

But here’s the truth no one wants to swallow— most people never wanted the knives that come with the crown. They wanted the praise, the spotlight, without the sleepless nights and bloodstained decisions.

That’s what’s funny. They weep at the price of the ticket when the circus master cashes out. They scream “unfair!” at the numbers, but they still buy seats for the show.

You call me cruel for laughing? No, I’m honest. The game was always rigged— and the only difference between me and them?

I enjoy the spectacle.

The Joker exhales a plume of smoke, twisting into a crooked smile.
