The Will to Resist, Replayed
A PS1 in the house.
Two discs in my hands:
I hated the grind of one. Still loved its villain anyway.
I cracked the other wide open — beating goblins half-dead, farming job points in circles until boredom hit.
I didn’t play it like veterans. I played it like survival: punch until you’re strong enough to leave.
Outside the screen, life pressed faster.
- 2000, I shipped out.
- 2002, my stepdad was gone.
- 2009, my mom passed in silence—her last call for help unanswered.
Those years burned the lesson deeper than any grid map:
systems don’t care if you stand or fall.
And yet — in that grid, in those pixels — I found the line that stuck:
“The will to resist is in your hands.”
That wasn’t a game mechanic. That was a warning. A dare.
A truth whispered through goblins at 2 HP and bosses that mocked me until I struck back.
So I made this blog.
Not for nostalgia.
Not for polish or praise.
But because resistance has to live somewhere, even after the credits roll.
Because memory dies quiet if you don’t speak it.
You don’t have to replay it, nor do you have to understand it.
But if you’ve ever stood alone against a system that refused to see you,
Then you know.
