The Will to Resist

When the Doctor Says "You Still Gotta Try" — The Most Useless Motivational Speech Ever

Let me tell you about one of the most insulting, well-meaning, passive-aggressive lines you’ll ever hear when seeking help for your health:

"Well, just remember... you still have to put in the effort."

No shit, Sherlock.

If I could put in the effort consistently, I wouldn't be sitting here considering surgery that rewires my digestive system like I'm patching firmware into a human body.

If I had the stamina, clarity, and energy to keep a gym routine, meal prep like a bodybuilder, and smile through diabetic symptoms and back pain from hell—do you really think I’d be here asking you to slice open my torso like a Thanksgiving ham?

Nobody wants this route. Nobody signs up for vitamin regimens, post-op nausea, or losing 90% of their favorite foods just for fun.

We’re here because every other "try harder" method already failed.

We didn’t come for a pep talk. We came for a lever. A medical lever. A reset switch. A damn lifeline.

That’s what the surgery is. It’s not the cheat code. It’s the respawn point.

So no, doc, your little PSA isn't inspiring. It’s dismissive. Because yes, I know effort is required. I've been burning effort in silence for years—fighting fatigue, shame, and a body that betrayed me before I even had a chance.

This isn’t about laziness. It’s about survival.

So next time you wanna toss out that generic wisdom like it’s profound, maybe pause and realize:

If I had the momentum to "just try harder," I wouldn’t be here begging for a scalpel to fix what willpower couldn’t.
